a story

“Maybe I’ll write like Twain wrote
Maybe I’ll paint like Van Gogh
Cure the common cold, I don’t know
But I’m ready to start cause I know in my heart

I wanna do something that matters, say something different
Something that sets the whole world on its ear
I wanna do something better with the time I’ve been given
I wanna try to touch a few hearts in this life
Leave nothing less than something that says I was here…”

I posted these lyrics from Lady Antebellum’s “I Was Here” exactly 6 years ago.  April 29, 2010.  It had been a little over a month since Kenny’s left hemipelvectomy.  It was after I had visited him in Houston mid-April, and I was back home in Norman.  I don’t recall exactly what was happening in my life back in Norman, but something about this song obviously hit home with me.  I knew there was something deep down inside waiting to get out that would help others.  Something that would touch a few hearts, something that would be more than I ever could imagine.  I wasn’t sure what it was, or how it would come to be, but I felt it, deep in my heart.

So here I am, 6 years later.  Six years of life, six years of experience.  Six years of events, small and tragic, that tell a story.

A story that won’t go left untold.  A story that I can only hope and pray will touch a few hearts, and hopefully, many hearts for many years to come.

With all this said, I’m here to announce I will be writing a book.  A book that will tell a story.  One that will hopefully tell the truth, the struggle, the strength, the light, and the hope.
